Scholarships

Helping students succeed

Placer Community Foundation manages scholarship funds that are awarded to graduating seniors from area high schools each year. Many of these scholarships are also renewable for college students. Some scholarships are started by families or individuals; others by businesses or organizations. All scholarships share one goal: helping young people reach their educational goals.

We commend our scholarship donors for their generosity to young people. If you are interested in starting a scholarship or education fund, Placer Community Foundation can help.

We celebrate our recipients who overcome great obstacles in pursuit of a better future.

Larry D. Mitchell Scholarship Fund

Larry Mitchell knew at a young age the importance of education.  In 1960 he wrote in a high school essay:

“Preparations for college should begin early in life.  Studying is one way to prepare for college…but another important preparation is putting aside some money for all the expenses of a higher education.”

Today his family and friends honor this and many other exemplary, lifelong attributes of Mr. Mitchell through the Larry D. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Contributions made to this endowed fund at the Placer Community Foundation will provide scholarships to Placer High School and Analy High School students who are seeking to attend higher education.

John G. & Lillian M. Walsh Family Scholarship Fund

As the last Auburn Walsh with no heirs of her own, Marian Walsh wanted to establish a lasting memorial to her parents.  Her bequest established the John G. and Lillian M. Walsh Family Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to graduates of Placer High School and Del Oro High School.  Through this memorial scholarship, entrusted to the Placer Community Foundation, the legacy of the Walsh family continues investing in the future through our community’s youth.
