Agencies Meet to Discuss Challenging Times

Release Date: 25-May-2010

Almost 40 members of the Placer Collaborative Network gathered to talk about opportunities for strengthening their ability to serve the public during these challenging times.

“We felt it was important to ask key leaders in the health and human service field to meet with members of the Network to talk about ways we can do business differently given the challenging economy,” said Maureen Bauman, Co-Director for Placer Collaborative Network.

Panelists for this community meeting included Assistant Department Director for Placer County Health and Human Services, James T. Gandley, DDS, MPH,  Michael T. Shellito, City Manager for the City of Roseville and Keri Thomas, Regional Community Benefits Manager for Sutter Health.

The panel offered a special briefing on how they are doing businesses differently given the current economic reality while offering encouragement to their community partners.

“We need to take care of ourselves so we can help others,” offered Dr. James Gandley.  Placer County Health and Human Services will continue to partner with community based organizations to deliver services in the coming years though he cautioned significant cuts may be made due to reduced funding from the state.

"Less can be more if you focus on what matters most," said Roseville City Manager Mike Shellito. He acknowledged the work of the Collaborative and its role in enriching the lives of the citizens in our community. “We all need to become more comfortable with chaos and change," he noted.

At the end of the hour-long panel, members asked questions shared information and made plans to continue coming together around these and other topics that benefit our community.
