Times of economic uncertainty can foster philanthropy around causes that matter most to individuals, families and the community. Knowing the arts are a vital part of building community and enhancing the quality of life in Placer County, the Placer Community Foundation has committed to support local arts through its Arts Initiative.
The Arts Initiative provides grants and technical assistance training for local arts organizations focused on engaging residents (with particular emphasis on newcomers) and increasing public participation in ways that support sustainability of these organizations. The initiative was created by the Placer Community Foundation in 2005 and is funded through The James Irvine Foundation.
Recently grants totaling $11,000 were awarded to the following local arts organizations: Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center, Auburn Symphony, Colla Voce, PlacerArts, Placer Community Theater, Placer Theatre Ballet, Rocklin Community Theatre, Roseville Arts’ Blue Line Gallery, Roseville Community Concert Band and Take Note Troupe. Other significant grants made through the Arts Initiative include supporting collaborative arts marketing projects such as PlacerArts 360 logo and brand for the local arts sector, as well as PlacerArts’ community-wide arts calendar and registry of artists.
The work of Placer Community Foundation’s Arts Initiative has been instrumental in generating interest amongst arts philanthropists who wish to support our local arts; either by contributing directly to the Community Foundation’s arts endowment fund, or by directing their gift to an aspect of the arts that matter most to them personally. Such was the case with the Susan Cooley-Gilliom Artist Residence and Teaching (ART) Program.
Established with a $1 million endowed gift to the Placer Community Foundation by Sue D. Cooley and the Sky View Foundation, the ART program develops and enhances the visual arts through short-term residencies and workshops taught by nationally established and highly-reputable artists who create in a range of media.
