Foundation Named Outstanding Grantmaker

Release Date: 11-Nov-2009

Author Jim Collins created the popular concept that in order for an organization to succeed you need to have “the right people on the bus.” The Placer Community Foundation took this literally last Tuesday when it gathered approximately 35 people on a chartered bus to attend the 2009 National Philanthropy Day’s Awards Luncheon in Sacramento.

The event, hosted by the CA Capital Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, presented Placer Community Foundation with an award for Outstanding Grantmaker.  To acknowledge that the award was possible through the hard work and generosity of its local nonprofit grantees, donors and agency partners, the Community Foundation assembled the large group to participate in the honor.

Veronica Blake, CEO of the Placer Community Foundation, accepted the award before a full room of regional philanthropic leaders. She spoke of the positive impact the Community Foundation’s strategic grant programs are having in Placer County to date and recognized the financial investment by donors to make them possible.

“Our appreciation starts with the Beecher family who gave us our first unrestricted gift, to the James Irvine Foundation for continuing to fund our arts programming and to all of the individual donors who choose to do their giving through our Community Foundation,” she stated.  “Their trust and commitment in our programs is, and will continue to have, an impact on the quality of life we enjoy in Placer County.”

The Outstanding Grantmaker award acknowledges the Placer Community Foundation’s two primary grant programs: the Technical Assistance Program (TAP) and the Audience Development program for the arts.  Both programs require a steadfast commitment on the part of the grantee organization and include such work as board development, marketing or strategic planning and developing solid accounting practices.  The Community Foundation board believes that by investing in the development of organizations they become stronger, more efficient and focused on their missions.

Joining Placer Community Foundation on the bus were representatives from:  KidsFirst, Nonprofit Resource Center, PEACE for Families, PlacerArts, Placer Land Trust, Placer SPCA, Roseville Arts, Seniors First, Sierra College Foundation and The Gathering Inn.
