A group of professional advisors including CPAs, estate planning attorneys and financial advisors have formed a Giving Circle at Placer Community Foundation to support programs serving youth. With funds matched by the Foundation, they recently awarded nearly $22,000 in grants to provide young people ages 14-21 with training and peer mentoring around violence prevention, relationship building, self esteem and leadership.
Of the 15 nonprofit organizations that applied for funding, 5 were awarded grants. On October 14th a reception and check presentation ceremony was held in which members of the Giving Circle presented the groups their checks and got to hear first-hand how grant funds will impact teens and young adults in need.
“It was a tough decision to make,” stated local CPA George Graziano. “All 15 organizations who applied are doing great work and I wish we could provide funding to them all.”
The organizations selected by the Professional Advisor Giving Circle include: Assistance League of Greater Placer, PEACE for Families, Roseville Police Activities League, ReDirect/Nuevo Camino and Harvest Community Church.
Giving Circles are a form of shared giving and social investment networking. They represent a growing trend in philanthropy and are established by individuals seeking to have greater involvement in their giving.
“We were pleased to see the advisors develop a deeper understanding of the philanthropic process by actively engaging and supporting important local youth programs in our community,” said Placer Community Foundation Board Chair, Jeff Birkholz.
The Board and Staff at Placer Community Foundation are grateful to the advisors who participated in this year’s giving circle. Members include: Donna Book, Bobst, Book & Associates, Inc.
