PCF donors and board members honored

Friends of the Placer Community Foundation (PCF) gathered on August 23^rd at the beautiful Viña Castellano winery in Auburn. Hosted by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, guests enjoyed wine, food from Café Zorro and a brief presentation by PCF’s newly appointed Chairman, Jeff Birkholz.

Mr. Birkholz acknowledged the many donors who have helped to make the Foundation’s strategic grant programs a success. He outlined achievements over the year, such as the Foundation’s award for National Philanthropy Day’s Outstanding Grantmaker for the Sacramento region, a 13% increase in public participation in local arts through the Foundation’s Audience Development program and the 58 grants awarded to local nonprofit organizations to help them improve their business models. Moving ahead, Mr. Birkholz highlighted exciting new grant programs aimed to impact a variety of local causes:

•  Youth Development Program– will support underserved youth ages 14-21. Grants to this program are matched through a Professional Advisor Giving Circle, comprised of local attorneys, CPAs, and investment advisors.

•  Strategic Communications grants– will provide training workshops for nonprofits on how to tell their stories about the lives they’ve impacted through their services.

•  Nonprofit Board Leadership Summit – set for 2011, this comprehensive summit will convene the many wonderful volunteers who serve on the board of directors of local nonprofit organizations to share best practices in nonprofit governance.

 Founding Chairman Janice Forbes also announced important changes to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Victor Roumage who served on the board for 14 years and Jack Briner who served for nearly 23 years transitioned to the emeritus board. Ms. Forbes expressed deep appreciation for their community service and for their efforts to increase philanthropy for Placer County. She then announced three new members who have joined the board this year: Larry Welch, Guy Gibson and Jim Williams.
