Scholarships Available for Teen Car Control Clinic

Scholarship applications are currently being accepted for local high school sophomores and juniors to attend an intensive, all-day Teen Car Control Clinic on April 2nd at Folsom Lake in Granite Bay, CA. The deadline to submit is March 15, 2012.

The Stephanie Bellotti Teen Fund at the Placer Community Foundation provides scholarships to teenagers in Placer County to participate in driving survival and car control clinics. In 2002 local teen Stephanie Bellotti lost control of her car and tragically lost her life at the age of 16. More teens are killed in auto accidents each year than by any other means. The fund supports prevention of such accidents by providing teens with life-long, life-saving driving skills.

Scholarship recipients will be afforded the opportunity to attend the National Auto Sports Association’s (NASA) Teen Car Control Clinic (TCCC) in Granite Bay, CA on April 2, 2012. This clinic gives students real-world, hands-on experience behind the wheel of their own cars. Students go through training that includes, but is not limited to: skid control, emergency stops, reverse driving, parallel parking, hazard avoidance, freeway merging, and much more.

Lauri Kanngiesser’s daughter attended the clinic last November and wants parents to understand the peace of mind that comes from having your son or daughter learn responsive driving skills. “This driving course gave my daughter the confidence and skills needed to prepare for and respond quickly to, surprises on the road. I now feel better handing her the keys to my car. She is a much more focused driver as a result of this class.”
