Placer County Real Food

The Community Foundation is pleased to sponsor Placer County Real Food, a new book by Auburn resident Joanne Neft and Chef Laura Kenny. Highlighting Placer County’s farmers and their produce the cookbook celebrates our county’s abundant agriculture while promoting community and the benefits of seasonally-prepared food.

The new cookbook features 360 recipes that use only ingredients grown in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Placer County Real Food Cookbook: Recipes & Menus for Every Week of the Year presents easy, healthy recipes using the fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, nuts and grains growing in the northern foothills of California Gold Country between Sacramento, Lincoln, Colfax and Granite Bay. The book is the project of Joanne Neft, who with Chef Laura Kenny spent the year 2009 developing recipes using only the seasonal food purchased each week at farmers markets. To test the recipes — and to stir a marketing buzz—Neft hosted 52 Monday-evening suppers for four to six guests at a time in her Auburn home.
