Each year, people from all walks of life make generous donations to Placer Community Foundation. We use these funds to issue grants to the nonprofit organizations working to resolve pressing community needs and seize important community opportunities. Together, we’re making life better in Placer County.
After the Great Depression, the enterprising Beechers purchased a vacant parcel of Auburn land that held great potential for future development. Their vision was a bit ahead of its time, and early development efforts failed. Still, the Beechers persisted, and used the property to establish The Auburn Community Foundation in 1948.
In giving the unrestricted gift, Mr. Beecher wrote:
Times change, and the Board will change, and who are we to tie the hands of tomorrow? The Auburn Community Foundation is a clearing house for every charitable impulse, an escape from excessive inheritance taxes and income taxes of the higher brackets... The same opportunity is open to all who chose peace of mind by settling their worldly affairs while they can enjoy the satisfaction that comes from knowing that your wishes will be carried out.
In 2005, the Auburn Community Foundation restructured to serve a larger community and formed Placer Community Foundation—continuing the Beecher’s legacy for future generations.

Legacy Created Through Commitment to Education
Larry Mitchell knew at a young age the importance of education. In 1960 he wrote in a high school essay:
“Preparations for college should begin early in life. Studying is one way to prepare for college…but another important preparation is putting aside some money for all the expenses of a higher education.”
