True stories of inspiring generosity

Each year, people from all walks of life make generous donations to Placer Community Foundation. We use these funds to issue grants to the nonprofit organizations working to resolve pressing community needs and seize important community opportunities. Together, we’re making life better in Placer County.

One man's enduring gift to support a variety of causes

Mr. Kemp was born in Kings County, Brooklyn, NY in 1917. Both his parents emigrated from Russia to New York by 1912.

He served as a Colonel in the Air Force during World War II, spending a period of this term in Africa. Upon returning home he married and began raising a family.

Mr. Kemp taught Management and Supervision at Laney College and later served as a probation officer. He had an interest in preserving old growth redwoods and enjoyed music; specifically show tunes.

Sometime after retiring, he served on the Seniors Advisory Committee for Kaiser. He actively served on this committee up until his passing in 2010.

Mr. Kemp chose to leave a gift in his estate plan to support charitable organizations. This gift is now stewarded through the Robert Kemp Community Endowment Fund at the Placer Community Foundation. Grants from this fund will support a variety of needs, relevant to the changing times. Mr. Kemp’s gift is a permanent source of community support and marks a lasting legacy of giving back.
