Child Advocates of Placer County serves our county’s most vulnerable youth through a team of caring and highly trained staff and volunteers. Through our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and Placer Mentor programs, volunteers provide a voice and consistent source of support to foster youth, at-risk youth and young adults; all with the goal of helping these kids build resiliency, self-confidence and self-sufficiency.
Through long-term goals created by the youth themselves, Child Advocate volunteers keep them focus on academic and career achievement and relationship building skills. More importantly they support struggling kids from engaging in behaviors that too often lead to the juvenile justice system, teen pregnancy, and drug and alcohol use.
Child Advocates of Placer County began slowly, serving fewer than 30 children in 2006. Today, CASA volunteers and Mentors serve close to 450 foster children and over 100 at-risk youth and former foster youth in a given year. This figure increases as new programs such as Family Mentors and Canine for Kids identifies more youth and young parents in desperate need of support.
Programs through Child Advocates of Placer County seek to increase community wellness. We want to see our youth make better life choices, succeed in school, and become happy, stable and contributing adults. We want our parents to reunify with their children and rebuild their families. And we want our volunteers to come away with a sense of accomplishment, an increased connection to their community, and a feeling of joy – the joy that comes from “giving back” in a meaningful way.
The results are life-changing for everyone.
