Sue Thompson and Jaya Perryman immerse themselves in their chosen fields and their community. Sue a successful Realtor and Jaya an emerging local artist, exemplify a shared dedication to giving back, all while navigating the dynamic landscape of their pursuits.
Jaya first arrived in Placer County in 1993, enticed by an acupuncture internship that marked a significant turning point in her career. Her journey into the healing arts began in India, where she had the privilege of studying with a Guru. Born in Orange, California, Jaya's artistic sensibilities were nurtured from a young age; her father was the owner of the first advertising agency in Orange County.
Sue joined the Auburn community in 1974, migrating from the Bay Area, where she gained invaluable experience in photo restoration. Upon arriving in Auburn, she transitioned to selling manufactured homes, which eventually paved the way for her successful 45-year career in real estate. Her passion for the field remains undiminished. "Every phone call brings a new challenge," Sue shares. "I enjoy venturing into the unknown."
When asked about what they admire most in each other, Jaya beams as she describes Sue's "generous and adventurous spirit." Meanwhile, Sue admires Jaya’s intellectual brilliance and her thoughtful, disciplined nature without hesitation.
Their commitment to philanthropy mirrors their admiration for one another and extends to the broader Placer County community through the Placer Community Foundation.
Sue’s introduction to PCF came during lunch with CEO Veronica Blake and another board member. A staunch advocate for affordable housing, Sue promptly joined the board and now serves as its Chair.

Together, Sue and Jaya have integrated PCF into their estate planning. Their legacy contributions include the Community Needs Fund, which is unrestricted and allows PCF staff to address the county’s most urgent concerns. Additionally, they established the Unity for Equality Endowment Fund to support LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.
"Giving is intrinsic to who we are," Jaya reflects.
Both women share an unwavering belief that giving back is a natural expression of gratitude and trust. "The community inspires us," Sue emphasizes.
For those interested in making an impactful contribution, they recommend PCF as a trustworthy partner. "Find something you’re passionate about—then support it," Sue advises. "PCF already has the structure in place. It’s like having your own personal Foundation."
"What I truly appreciate about the Foundation is its leadership," Sue adds. "They dedicate their lives to this work."
Jaya encapsulates the essence of PCF with a simple yet profound statement: "Trust. The key word is trust."
